Yellowglen was founded in 1971 by Ian Home, an Australian businessman with a love of champagne and a desire to create a truly Australian product. He began by planting 12 acres of vines at a site close to Ballarat, Victoria and named his brand after an abandoned gold mine which had once existed on the property.

With Yellowglen, Ian Home set out to create a sparkling wine that was not the expensive and exclusive champagne of France, nor a cheap and nasty sparkling, but something new and distinctly Australian. This philosophy has remained at the core of the business from the first vintage to this day.
