Suntory Japanese whiskies date back to 1899 when Torii Shoten opened a store in Osaka selling imported wines. In 1923, he expanded his business, building Japan's first whisky distillery, the Yamazaki Distillery and over the years, grew Japan's whisky culture by opening Suntory bars across the country. In 1973, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Yamazaki distillery, Suntory expanded their whisky operations further, founding the Hakushu Distillery.

Today, Suntory whiskies are widely regarded as some of the best in the world having not only won Distiller of the Year award four times, but with many of their offerings taking gold medals at the International Spirits Challenge and International Wine & Spirits Competition.
