Laphroaig distillery began simply as a cattle farm in 1810 for brothers Donald and Alexander Johnston. The farm required the brothers to grow barley to feed the cattle over winter, but finding they had too much, took to distilling whisky with the excess. Within only a few years, word had spread that the Laphroaig whisky was excellent, the whisky business became more profitable, and in 1815 the distillery was born.

Having recently celebrated their 200th anniversary Laphroaig's whisky remains as exceptional and unique today as ever. Over the years, would-be imitators have attempted to copy the Laphroaig formula, but the distillery's unique location and water source make it very difficult to replicate.
