Jansz Tasmania is at first glance an oddity, producing wines in the island's distinctly colder climate than the numerous vineyards and wineries which make their home in mainland Australia. However, The Tamar Valley in the Northeast of the island where Jansz is based shares a great many similarities with the Champagne region of France.

It was in 1986, that famed Champagne house Louis-Roederer saw these similarities with their homeland and worked with Jansz to produce Tasmania's first premium vintage sparkling wine. With this expert contribution, using the traditional method, Jansz has redefined how the world sees Australian sparkling wine.
