The Henschke family began making wines with Johann Christian Henschke, who purchased a farm at Keyneton, Australia in 1862, releasing his first wine vintage 6 years later. Though originally intended for friends and family, this commercial release sparked the beginning for Henschke.

Over the years, Henschke has been at the forefront of innovation in wine, in the 1950's pioneering varietal and single-vineyard wines at a time when fortified wine and blends were popular in Australia. The fifth generation of the Henschke family continues to run the winery today with the same dedication to exceptional wine they have always had.
