Goldschlager

Goldschlager takes its name from the German word for "gold beater", the profession which creates gold leaf by hammering gold into micrometre thin sheets. This is because every bottle of Goldschlager contains genuine 24-carat gold leaf flakes suspended in it.

An odd urban myth which persists around Goldschlager is that the gold flakes scratch the drinker's throat as it is consumed, allowing the alcohol to be absorbed faster. Gold however, is extremely soft and poses no such danger. The gold in Goldschlager is simply there to add a touch of sparkle to a unique drink.
