El Ron Prohibido

El Ron Prohibido, or "The Forbidden Run" is a rum from the Cervecera Mexicana distillery in Mexico. The story behind this rum tells that in the 18th century sweet wines were a popular export from Spain to the New World, and that the local distillers would repurpose the barrels after use to age their rums. When this rum was shipped back to Spain, it had taken on the flavours and aroma of the barrels and proved so popular the King of Spain banned its sale for fear it would harm sales of the local products.

Today, this rum has been made available again for all to enjoy. It is produced in a 12-year solera system using raisin wine barrels to bring this 300-year old recipe back to life.
