Cointreau

The Cointreau distillery was founded in 1849 by brothers Edouard-Jean and Adolphe Cointreau. The brothers, after working in the confectionary and cake-making industry spotted a need for high-quality naturally-flavoured liqueurs unavailable at the time and created their distillery to fulfil this.

Cointreau as we know it today was the creation of Edouard-Jean's son, Edouard. He saw consumers' interest in oranges, a rarity at the time, and set about creating the perfect blend and called the result "Curacao Blanco Triple Sec". It would later come to simply be known as Cointreau, and after taking an award at the Paris World's Fair in 1889 would soon come to be globally recognised and loved.
