Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes on the nose, layered with honey and vanilla. Smooth and mellow to taste with beautifully combined flavours - nutty, sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry - with a long and warming finish. This 12 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. Overs its period of maturation The Balvenie Doublewood is transferred from a traditional American oak whisky cask to a Spanish oak cask which has previously held sherry. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt - the traditional casks, having previously held bourbon, soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.
Background: The Balvenie distillery has been owned and managed by an independent family company for five generations. This has ensured that the Balvenie distillery is still dedicated to the traditions, care and craftsmanship of malt whisky making.
