Background: Eugene Mercier founded his own champagne house in 1858 at the tender age of twenty. He had set himself the ambitious goal of bringing high-quality champagne to the general public. When he died in 1904 Eugene Mercier had achieved his life's ambition. Mercier was already one of the leading traders in the Champagne region and his son-in-law and sons were ready to take up the reins with justifiable pride.
