Aromas of gooseberries, citrus, passionfruit and nectarine. Fresh and zingy on the palate with a fresh fruitiness. A mineral character lends a distinctly Sancerre-like style to the wine. The fresh acid is balanced by a tiny amount of retained sweetness. A modest alcohol level is a big plus for this style of wine. The grapes were harvested over an extended period to increase complexity, maximize and diversify flavours. They were rapidly and gently pressed to produce an elegant, fruit-driven wine with low phenolics. The juice was cold settled to clarify it and then cool fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain the fruit character. The wine was bottled in late August 2006. Grape Variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Background: This wine is made with grapes from various vineyards throughout Hawke's Bay: Meeanee, Clive, Porangahau & Gimblett Road. The four vineyards are in distinctively different parts of Hawke's Bay, with different soil types and climatic conditions 2006 was a challenging season for Sauvignon Blanc in Hawke's Bay. A very warm, dry summer was followed by a period of rain towards the end of March which hastened picking decisions for some vineyards on heavier soils.
