Description:
Deep ruby red with crimson hues, the bouquet shows a lifted perfume of blackberry and aniseed. The palate shows ripe sweet blackberry and mulberry fruit complexed with hints of licorice and black pepper and aniseed spice. The palate is boldly structured but balanced with fine tannin and sweet concentration.
Background Information:
Set in the picturesque Clare Valley, the Leasingham tradition evolved from humble beginnings in 1893. Rich soils and cool, moist conditions were perfect foundations for what is today a premium viticultural district.
Leasingham is highly regarded as one of the best Shiraz producers' in Australia, consistently producing award-winning wines of high quality.
Winemaker's Notes:
This wine depicts the hallmarks of the Clare Valley - richness, texture, finesse and the 2002 with its cool and even ripening period is no exception. The vines held up well with healthy canopies assisting with the ripeness. Crop levels were moderate and berry size relatively small, which allowed for additional concentration in the wines. The fruit for this wine was sourced from a number of different vineyards within the Clare Valley which are renowned for the quality of the fruit they produce. The wine was matured in both French and American oak for 18 months. The resulting wine is concentrated and a testament to the high fruit quality sourced.
