Deep red in colour with great colour intensity, the Houghton Cabernet displays fresh dusty characters with soft round fruit characters, rich concentrated aromas of mulberry, blackberry and plums, supported by hints of dried herb, black olive and toasted vanilla. The palate exhibits intense berry fruit flavours and rich spice, which are sustained by fine soft tannins.
Background Information:
Since 1859 the historic Houghton Winery in Western Australia has been famous for its distinctive wines. Today, Houghton continues the tradition by consistently producing award winning wines of finesse and character. Select fruit parcels are sourced from WA's premium wine growing regions including the Margaret & Frankland Rivers, Swan Valley & Gingin. This fruit is then handed over to the outstanding winemaking team at Houghton's where it is used to produce an extraordinary range of wines which show intensity of flavour and exceptional quality and are enjoyed in Australia and throughout the world.
Winemakers Notes:
The fruit for the Houghton Cabernet was sourced from various premium vineyards in Western Australia. The fruit was both mechanically harvested and crushed using air bag press. The wine was then fermented in stainless steel vessels and matured in French and American oak.
