In certain years, when the favourable climate has yielded an exceptional harvest, the Hine family set aside a cognac drawn exclusively from the Grande Champagne region. Hine has built up an unrivalled collection of old vintages, of which a limited quantity is released each year. This presentation Hine cognacs include the following vintages : Hine Vintage 1957 "An exceptional year" This pale amber coloured Grande Champagne is quite robust. Notes of preserved fruits and vanilla. A distinct floral impression. On the palate, without being overly strong, the cognac reveals perfumes of dry fruits and dry leather. Very pleasant aftertaste. Hine Vintage 1975 "An equally good vintage for both wine and cognac" This very powerful 1975 Grande Champagne is dominated by tannins and spices. On the palate, the volume and persistence confirm the first impressions on the nose. A very masculine cognac. Hine Vintage 1981 "An extraordinarily harmonious vintage" A wet year and high humidity levels in Bristol have contributed to this extraordinary harmonious but discreet vintage. On the nose, hints of honey and apricot. One the palate, very delicate. These vintage cognacs are taken from Early Landed Cognacs. Early Landed Cognacs: Since the 19th century, Hine has always shipped a small porportion of their distilled Vintage Cognacs to Bristol in the UK in cask. There, they acquire very different aromas. These are called 'Early Landed' cognacs. This has always been a tradition of the English wine trade and is today almost exclusively continued by Hine, so that early-landed cognacs are very rare. At most, 200 casks are kept there, in conditions very different from those at the House of Hine. These cognacs, never sold at less than 20 years of age, are always especially prized by connoisseurs.
