Description:
Pale gold in colour with a fine mousse. The wine is aromatic on the nose. On the palate it shows great finesse and complexity, with some honey characters and tremendous balance.
Pinot Noir gives the wine richness and a long finish while Chardonnay, from the finest soils of the Cotes des Blancs, adds delicacy, liveliness and freshness. Pinot Meunier, mainly from the Marne Valley, gives the wine an appealing fruitiness and roundness.
Blend of Grapes:
48% Pinot Noir, 33.5% Chardonnay, 18.5% Pinot Meunier.
Production:
The origin of the cru’s gives a good idea of the quality of the wine. The Pinot Noir is sourced from Aÿ, Mareuil sur Aÿ, Louvois, Bouzy, Tours sur Marne, Verzy and Rilly. The Chardonnay is sourced from Cramant, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cuis and Vertus. And the Pinot Meunier is sourced from Venteuil, Cerseuil, St Martin d’Ablois and Chavot. These villages are ranked at the very high level of 93% on the ‘échelle des crus’ scale.
This cuvée is made from 77% of wines coming from the great 2002 vintage, and 23% reserve wines.
After second fermentation Rich Majeur spends more than 2 years on its lees in the cellars, and rests for 4 months after disgorgement and prior to shipment.
Ayala is owned by the Bollinger Champagne House.
