Description:
A rich, golden amber hue. The complex nose reveals aromas of cocoa, molasses, caramel and vanilla. On the palate 1919 is exceptionally smooth with flavours of chocolate, nougat, honey an almond butter. The finish is delightfully long and creamy.

Epitomising the best that Trinidad has to offer, 1919 is made from a blend of light and heavy molasses-based rums for an extraordinarily smooth and irresistible taste that simply enchants the senses.

Background: In 1932 a great fire destroyed the Trinidad & Tobago Government Rum Bond. Angostura's then Master Blender JB Fernandes seized this opportunity to buy charred casks of rum salvaged from the fire. To his delight casks of 1919 vintage rum had aged magnificently and the taste inspired Mr. Fernandes to create a much sought after and prized blend, which he named 1919.

In 2001, after years of careful research and development, Angostura's Master Blender reinstated the 1919 super-premium rum blend. Reverting to similar production principle originally conceived back in 1932 Angostura created an internationally acclaimed rum which symbolises the spirit of Trinidad & Tobago.

JB Fernandes always used sugar-cane molasses in conjunction with his own yeast and believed in allowing his mash to sit in the fermenters for at least three days before distilling. This allowed greater development of flavour compounds in the both the light and heavy rum components of the blend.

He was also an innovative distiller, so used column stills to make his rums, operating at specific temperatures to be certain that the flavours he had sought to create in fermentation were captured in distillation.

Ageing has always been the key. The rums are aged in American oak barrels, specially selected for their extra char and must have been used previously to age light rum. This contributes to the golden colour and lighter flavours of the resulting rum, even though they have been aged for 8 years.
